Patek Philippe has introduced a new design language in its classic Calatrava collection at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2022. The refreshed aesthetic features the round case that the Calatrava family has long been associated with, but includes syringe hands, applied Arabic numerals, a lacquered charcoal grey dial with a textured finish and beige lumens. For many, however, the real highlight will be where Patek Philippe chooses to place Calatrava's traditional Parisian studs - the case.
A gradient black minute track surrounds the textured dial, adding some tool precision to the overall look. The grey-black dial combined with tan accents gives this watch a retro-inspired look, although Patek Philippe doesn't cite a specific Calatrava from the company's archives here. Technically, the 5226G is housed in a 40mm x 8.53mm white gold case with a sapphire caseback on the top and back. Inside is the self-winding Caliber 26-330 SC, a fairly new time and date movement that replaced Caliber 324 in the Nautilus 5711 in 2019.
